The concept of Pure chair originated from the idea that the beauty of simplicity surpasses all things in the world. Inspired by the article "Heaven" by Zhuangzi, the designers believe that only the most natural beauty can never fade, and other forms of beauty cannot compare with it. With this philosophy in mind, Pure chair aims to bring people closer to nature by removing unnecessary lines and embracing a natural and original state.
The unique strength of Pure lies in its design and craftsmanship. The chair's style takes cues from the Ming-style ring chair, incorporating the gentle curve of its chair ring and goose neck. The lines are concise and clear, creating a turning point that adds a strong visual impact. The curved design of the seat cushion not only enhances the chair's ergonomic qualities but also showcases exquisite craftsmanship.
In terms of construction, Pure utilizes the traditional tenon joint structure, known for its stability, solidity, and ease of production. This structure not only ensures the chair's durability but also makes it suitable for mass production. The use of beech and North American walnut as the primary materials adds a touch of natural beauty to the chair.
Measuring at 597*484*760 mm and weighing 4.8 kg, Pure is designed to provide both comfort and functionality. Its simple appearance and the use of natural materials create an inviting atmosphere, encouraging people to engage in conversations and interactions.
The Pure chair project began in April 2017 in Hangzhou and was completed in August 2019 in Milan. Throughout the design process, the team faced various challenges, including creating new connection structures and maintaining the elegance and consistency of the shape curve. By studying traditional furniture structures, conducting 3D model making, and performing mechanical analysis, the designers were able to overcome these challenges and bring their vision to life.
Pure chair has been recognized for its outstanding design and creativity. In 2020, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate exceptional technical and creative skills while contributing to improvements in quality of life.
With its blend of natural aesthetics, traditional craftsmanship, and ergonomic design, Pure chair stands as a testament to the beauty of simplicity and the power of thoughtful design.
